Leicester City take on Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, a battle of two promotion hopefuls. Leicester are currently fifth while opponents Cardiff sit once place behind Leicester in sixth. Both sides lost their last matches, so for Leicester and Cardiff they will both be looking to bounce straight back from a dismal start to the month of March.

THE TEAMS
Leicester, were defeated against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, which marked the end of an eight match unbeaten streak. However some fans will be hoping that the so called ‘Manager of the Month Curse’ (which Nigel Pearson claimed last Saturday) hasn’t hit Leicester, because this is one of the most important months of the Championship season. If the ‘Foxes’ do have a blip in form it will undoubtedly affect their promotion chances, but yesterday they were able to sign Everton striker James Vaughan on a month’s loan to bolster their promotion charge. Hopefully for Leicester they can bounce straight back from defeat to ‘Wednesday’ with a win over Cardiff tomorrow afternoon.

Cardiff, are still hanging in and around the play-off places considering they have had a massive lapse of form. Manager Dave Jones is currently the longest serving boss in the Coca Cola Championship; however he has always failed to help Cardiff City with promotion, considering they always start brilliantly to a new season. That bad run of games towards the end of a season has struck the ‘Bluebirds’ yet again. As stats show it will be highly unlikely that Dave Jones’s side will be finishing in the top six places of the Championship under his guidance. Cardiff are a quality footballing side, but there squad is very low on numbers due to finicial problems at the club, if they were able to strengthen their squad, they would most likely be challenging the top three in my view.

TEAM NEWS
Leicester – After suffering a facial injury against Sheffield Wednesday, first choice goalkeeper Chris Weale has been classed fit to play. Also for Leicester new signing James Vaughan could well be among the starting 11, while Leicester’s physio has stated that Matty Fryatt could well be out for the remainder of this season.

Cardiff – Cardiff could well include key trio, Peter Whittingham, Mark Kennedy and Stephen McPhail, after all three players have been out injured. Michael Chopra is suspended, while two other key assets Joe Ledley and Mark Hudson are long term absentees.

KEY PLAYERS
Leicester – Jack Hobbs. The Leicester defence has to be wary of Cardiff’s attacking threat, and I think Jack Hobbs will be the man who can stop the Cardiff attack from scoring. The former Liverpool player was immense against Nottingham Forest, as his tackling ability was first class. He has to produce the same heroics tomorrow.

Cardiff – Chris Burke. The Cardiff City winger of Chris Burke has been amazing for the ‘Bluebirds’ this season. He is a tricky player to contend with, as Ryan McGivern would know, as Burke tore Leicester’s second choice left-back to pieces in the away fixture. Burke is a good player who can score goals aswell, it will most likely be Bruno Berner who occupy’s the ‘Foxes’ left-back role, so he has to stop as many crosses as he can or Burke’s deliveries could prove to be dangerous.

MATCH PREDICTION
It could well be a close battle between two sides who are trying to gain promotion, its 5th v 6th and both sides will want the win. Leicester has a bigger squad than Cardiff and Nigel Pearson’s side have lesser injury problems to contend with. If Cardiff can get Whittingham fit, he will play a vital role, however im hoping that new signing James Vaughan can muster up something special, Leicester 2-1 Cardiff

Everton’s Vaughan spent time with fellow East Midlands club Derby County earlier this season; however an injury marked the end of his loan spell with the Rams.

Vaughan has netted two goals for Everton so far this season after returning from an injury spell in January. The former England u21 striker is known for his blistering pace, with Fryatt out injured Leicester needed a new front man and they have got their wish, Vaughan has signed for Leicester and will make his debut against Cardiff on Saturday.

After the 3-0 derby win over Nottingham Forest, Leicester will now travel to Hillsborough in search of another three points. The odds are surely in Leicester’s favour as the ‘Foxes’ are currently unbeaten in eight league games, while opponents Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win a league game in three, under the guidance of Alan Irvine.

THE TEAMS
Leicester, are currently on a brilliant run of games, as the month of February turned out to be a pulsating month for Nigel Pearson’s side. Leicester were unbeaten throughout the whole of February, however Leicester will need to do more of the same in the month of March, that’s only if they want to claim a play-off place at the end of the season. Home form has been key to the “Foxes” success this season, and they will want to claim wins away from home aswell, instead of a lot of draws. Leicester are currently 5th and are pulling away from 6th place Cardiff, if they can keep the good running going, Leicester will be 100% on course for the Championship play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday, sit in drop zone of the Coca Cola Championship as league’s wins were few and far between in the month of February. ‘Wednesday’ only managed to claim three points out of a possible fifteen, a record which has seen them plummet back into the drop zone. It’s not looking good for Sheffield Wednesday as there are rumours that they could well be put into administration; however Chairman Lee Strafford has quickly squashed those rumours. Also in there last league match, Irvine’s side were thrashed 5-0 at the hands of on-form Reading. Sheffield Wednesday need to claim a win sometime soon, however I sincerely hope that it doesn’t come against Leicester tomorrow.

TEAM NEWS
Leicester – Nigel Pearson will most likely stick with the first 11 which defeated Nottingham Forest last Saturday, therefore the likes of Yann Kermorgant, Nolberto Solano and Nicky Adams will most likely be on the bench again. Leicester has been struck with some very disturbing news, that defender Alexsander Tunchev will be ruled out for at least another six months.

Sheffield Wednesday – The ‘Owls’ could welcome back three players for tomorrow’s clash against Leicester. Darren Purse, Jermaine Johnson and Francis Jeffers could all return, however defender Lewis Buxton will remain on the Sheffield Wednesday sidelines.

KEY PLAYERS
Leicester – Paul Gallagher. Paul Gallagher has been in sensational form over the past couple of weeks, as he netted a hat-trick against Scunthorpe and a single goal against Nottingham Forest. On the other hand, Gallagher has failed to score away from home this season, but his away performances have still been class. Hopefully Gallagher will put in another great performance, however hopefully he can add a goal tomorrow as Leicester will try to make it nine games unbeaten with a win against ‘Wednesday’.

Sheffield Wednesday – Lee Grant. Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant is well established to this league, he has been an inaugural figure in the ‘Owls’ side for a good number of years now. After Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win a game in three matches, and with Leicester posing a great attacking threat, the man between the sticks will have to be on top form on Saturday. He has always been known to be one of the best keepers in the Championship, however can Lee Grant keep Leicester at bay tomorrow?

MATCH PREDICTION
Leicester will be the strong favourites for this match, Nigel Pearson’s boys are fighting for a place in the play-offs while Sheffield Wednesday are fighting like beavers as they try and climb their way out of the Championship drop zone. You can never underestimate the ‘Owls’, however Leicester are playing very good attacking football at the moment, and with a shaky Sheffield defence Leicester could well unlock ‘Wednesday’ at times. Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Leicester City.

MATCH STATS

After his mind blowing displays this season, all Leicester fans will agree with me, that Bruno Berner deserves a chance to play at this summer’s World Cup for his home nation of Switzerland. The left-back has stated that he is not giving up hope, as he is vying for a lucrative spot in Switzerland’s squad. Berner has said “Im ready but there is not much time left so it’ll be difficult.”

Since returning to the Leicester side from an injury set-back, Berner has slotted right back into the ‘City’ fold. Fellow left-back Ryan McGivern was having a torrid time in that position for Leicester, as most Leicester fans started to slate his performances, and thankfully enough Berner is now fit again and has kept McGivern out of the side ever since the Newcastle match at the back end of January.

Berner has recently been shortlisted for the Leicester Player of the Year award, along with Chris Weale and Andy King. I for one thinks Berner deserves that award much more than the other two, even though Weale has been a consistent performer this season, Bruno Berner’s outstanding all-round displays for the ‘Foxes’ have turned him into a fans favourite at the club and as on match days you can often here the Leicester fans shouting “Bruno Bruno Bruno”, a chant which has taken the Leicester City faithful by heart.

However can Bruno Berner claim a spot in Switzerland’s World Cup squad, recently the Swiss national coach named his squad for an upcoming friendly against Uruguay. For the left-back he was left out of Hitzfeld’s squad. Bruno Berner faces a stern competition from the likes of former Tottenham player, Reto Ziegler and Frankfurt defender Christoph Spycher for the Switzerland left-back spot.

Does Bruno deserve to be a part of the Swiss national side for the 2010 World Cup?

Leicester claimed their first back to back victories since Boxing day, and they also made it eight games unbeaten after they defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the Walkers Stadium.

That vital win means Leicester stay in 5th position; however for local rivals Nottingham Forest they slip out of the top two at the expense of West Brom.

Leicester scored their first thanks to a lovely strike from Bruno Berner, and around ten minutes later Paul Gallagher’s fantastic free-kick found the left-hand corner of the net.

The “Foxes” secured all three points after Andy King latched onto a well driven ball from Bruno Berner.

The first half was bossed by both team’s defences, as Nottingham Forest defender Wes Morgan and Leicester defender Jack Hobbs were immense for their respective sides.

Forest had the best chance of the first half, as a corner was floated in by Majewski only to eventually come to the head of Earnshaw, but his header struck the bar.

Billy Davies stated after the loss that he was happy with his defence, ”I was happy enough with the back five but the middle and front players didn’t influence the game or compete enough and that was very disappointing”.

Leicester then grabbed a foot hole in the game as they stunned the Forest defence to claim a vital win over the East Midlands rivals.

Leicester took the lead in the 68th minute as Richie Wellens surged into the penalty area, he decided to back heel the ball into the path of Berner, who fired the ball home from around 12 yards.

Paul Gallagher scored the “Foxes” second goal of the afternoon as his expertly well taken free-kick sailed into the top corner of Lee Camp’s goal, to secure his sixth goal of the season.

Leicester finished Nottingham Forest off as a lack of concentration from the “Forest” defence let in Bruno Berner whose shot was fired into the penalty area only to be turned in by fellow Leicester City player Andy King.

Nottingham Forest nearly scored a consolation goal, however David McGoldrick’s bullet shot was well saved by the on form Leicester goalkeeper Chris Weale.

The game finished 3-0 thanks to three goals in the space of 14 minutes, Leicester are now five points clear of 6th place Cardiff, meaning that they are well on course for the Championship play-offs.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was happy with the vital three points, “Our fans will enjoy having the local bragging right but the bottom line is that this was an important game to win because it means we maintain our momentum”.

OPINIONS AND FEEDBACK WANTED PLEASE

After the “Foxes” played three away games on the bounce over the past week, Nigel Pearson’s team will host East Midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow afternoon. It looks highly likely that the match will be a sell out, and for the travelling “Forest” fans they will have to be geared up for a heated reception on Saturday.

THE TEAMS
Leicester, were able to climb a place in the Championship table in midweek after they edged out a decent Doncaster side 1-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium. After the midweek win it meant that the “Foxes” leapfrogged Cardiff City into 5th position. Leicester City are currently six games unbeaten after that impressive away run helped their cause, however the unbeaten run could well about to become unstuck as a Nottingham Forest side who are currently 2nd in the table come to town. Leicester will want to win this game more than any other this season, as last time out Forest thrashed Leicester 5-1 at the City Ground, a result which was hard to take for every Leicester fan, including myself. With a bumper crowd expected tomorrow, the ”Foxes” will have to be at the top of their game if they want to please the 28,000 plus Leicester fans. Leicester City is highly capable of making it seven games unbeaten, and I for one thinks Leicester could well be in for a cracking game on Saturday afternoon.

Nottingham Forest, are currently having a blinder of a season as they are flying high in the Championship ladder, Notts Forest are currently 2nd in the table behind relegated Newcastle who are five points ahead of “Forest”, also for the ”Magpies” they have a game in hand over there promotion rivals. Billy Davies’s side defeated Leicester 5-1 back in December, but as the form books show, Forest have currently hit a bad patch considering they were the only English side, throughout all the top four English divisions not to lose an away game in their respective league, however that incredible tally was ended last month by their fellow East Midlands rivals, Derby County. Since then, Nottingham Forest has played two away games one against Coventry and the other being against Doncaster, two games which they were defeated in. Leicester will have to fancy their chances on Saturday as local rivals Notts Forest have lost their last three away games.

TEAM NEWS
Leicester, skipper Matt Oakley and striker Paul Gallagher are likely to be recalled to the Leicester side after both players were rested in midweek. Nicky Adams, Yann Kermorgant and Steve Howard are waiting to be chosen as a part of the “Foxes” starting 11. Also there are no fresh injury problems for Leicester.

Nottingham Forest , Nathan Tyson is available again after recovering from illness; however winger Gareth McCleary and defender Joel Lynch will miss the game through suspension and injury. For the “Tricky Trees” manager Billy Davies will have to decide whether or not he will recall Tyson to the starting 11, or leave him to watch the game from the substitutes bench.

KEY PLAYERS
Leicester – Chris Weale. Leicester City goalkeeper Chris Weale will undoubtedly be tested tomorrow afternoon. Notts Forest are an very attacking minded footballing side and for Leicester keeper Chris Weale, he will have to be on top form, the keeper signed from Bristol City in the summer, has made a huge impact at the Walkers Stadium and over recent weeks he has pulled off some tremendous displays as Leicester’s number 1.

Nottingham Forest – Paul Anderson. Leicester born Anderson is set to feature for Forest tomorrow, as his side will go in search for all three points at the Walkers Stadium. Anderson has been one of the star performers for “Forest” this season and the winger will cause Leicester’s right-back a lot of problems on Derby day. The former Liverpool player could well be surrounded by an outcall of boo’s, when he comes up against his home town fans on Saturday afternoon.

MATCH PREDICTION
It will be an incredibly tough game for Leicester, rivals Nottingham Forest are on course for promotion, however they are currently having a blip away from home. Leicester are currently on a decent run, and after the midweek win over Doncaster they will certainly be on a high level of confidence for tomorrow’s game. Both sets of teams have strong squads, and with high level players on show this game could well be a cracker. I will stick with my supported team Leicester and go with a home win. Leicester 3-2 Nottingham Forest

Leicester City players and fans, will be heading down to the south west region for a second time in the space of five days. This is the longest trip of the season for the Leicester players and fans, as they will travel 240 plus miles to get to Home Park. Also for the fans coaches of Leicester City football club, they will be setting off bright and early tomorrow morning, at a predominant time of around 7.30am. Hopefully the “Foxes” can salvage a draw or a win from the Plymouth game tomorrow, if not it will prove to be a horrible day for the Leicester fans.

THE TEAMS
Leicester, are currently unbeaten in five league games, as the “Foxes” are currently on an impressive run under the guidance of manager Nigel Pearson. However the Tuesday night fixture against Bristol City, could of well marked the end of Leicester’s run of four games unbeaten, but thanks to a last minute strike from winger Lloyd Dyer, Leicester were able to extend their unbeaten run to five games. Leicester could also go to at least 4th in the table tomorrow, only less results go their way that is, as Leicester need to beat Plymouth Argyle, and Cardiff and Swansea need to lose their respective fixtures. The last time these two teams met at Home Park, Plymouth and Leicester battled it out for a 0-0 draw, however that season was the relegation season, as Leicester plummeted into the third tier of English football for the first time. On the other hand, Leicester are a fresher team nowadays as they currently sit in a play-off place in the Coca Cola Championship, a much more resilient position than two seasons ago. Lastly, Paul Gallagher could well face his former club tomorrow afternoon.

Plymouth, are currently the 2nd worst team in the Championship, as they currently lay in the relegation zone. In Plymouth’s last six games they have been able to pick up seven points, which proves that they are on a very inconsistent run of games. However in their last two matches, they have picked up four points, as they defeated Barnsley last weekend, and picked up a valuable home point against play-off chasers Swansea on Tuesday. After sacking Paul Sturrock, current manager Paul Mariner started pretty well as the new leader of Plymouth Argyle. On the other hand current results have pushed Plymouth further away from safety. If they don’t gain a win against Leicester on Saturday, Plymouth along with Peterborough will be the sheer favourites for relegation.

TEAM NEWS
Leicester, Paul Gallagher is likely to face his former club tomorrow, as Gallagher spent the whole of last season, on loan to Plymouth. Lloyd Dyer will more than likely be chosen over fellow winger Dany N’Guessan, while Stephen Clemence, Alexsander Tunchev and Matty Fryatt are all out with long term injuries.

Plymouth, could well be without key defender Reda Johnson for the game against Leicester. Meanwhile, winger Craig Noone and defender David McNamee are both likely to miss the clash.

KEY PLAYERS
Leicester – Martyn Waghorn. The striker could well be the key asset for Leicester tomorrow. As Fryatt is injured, Leicester are currently looking towards fellow striker Waghorn for the goals. Waghorn recently scored a well finished half-volley at home to Scunthorpe, the frontman on loan from Premier League, Sunderland, is definitely staying at the Walkers Stadium until the end of the season stated “Black Cats” manager Steve Bruce earlier this week. He is quick, he is strong and he can score goals, the Waghorn and Gallagher partnership could well be vital tomorrow.

Plymouth – Rory Fallon. Fallon is currently the joint 2nd leading scorer for Plymouth this season. He has netted five goals in the league this season; however he currently is one goal behind fellow striker Jamie Mackie. The reason why Fallon is so vital to Plymouth’s game, is because he is strong and he is good in the air. Leicester centre backs, Wayne Brown and Jack Hobbs will have to be wary of Fallon’s presence tomorrow, or he could well trouble the “Foxes” with his flick ons.

MATCH PREDICTION
Considering these two teams are 17 places apart from each other in the table, and these two teams are trying to conjure up two different achievements, you only can see one winner in this match and that’s Leicester City. Plymouth are fighting for their lives, while Leicester are fighting for a play-off spot, Plymouth need all the points they can get at home, while Leicester’s away form isn’t that good, however they haven’t lost on the road in two games. Plymouth 0-1 Leicester

When Bristol City’s, David Clarkson scored what seemed to be the winning goal at Ashton Gate last night, the game soon turned on its head a minute later, as Lloyd Dyer’s well worked finish stunned the Bristol City faithful. The game ended up as a well fought 1-1 draw, however for the both of the sides managers they will both have different views, on the outcome of that game.

However, Lloyd Dyer did score the “Foxes” only goal in that match, so I want to hear your opinions… How good is Leicester City’s winger, Lloyd Dyer?

Lloyd Dyer was signed by manager Nigel Pearson, in last season’s summer transfer window, Dyer signed for the Foxes on a three year deal on the 1st, July, 2008. The winger they made his debut against his former club the Mk Dons on the opening day of the 08/09 season, a game which the “Foxes” were able to win, 2-0. Dyer’s first goal for Leicester proved to be one of four, against Cheltenham Town in the first month of last season. Lloyd Dyer was able to net 10 goals last season throughout all competitions, and some of his most notable goals came against the big clubs in League 1.

Dyer scored the winning goal against Colchester; he also scored a stoppage time winner against Huddersfield Town in what proved to be an emphatic 3-2 win for Leicester that day. Dyer also scored the first goal against fellow promoted side Scunthorpe on the 22/11/2008. At the back end of last season, Dyer was a key factor in Leicester’s promotion push, as he scored in a crucial 3-1 win away to Hereford and to cap off a great season for Lloyd Dyer, he netted in the final league game of the season against Crewe. Dyer was one of the better for Leicester last season, however considering it’s a big step up from League 1 level to Championship level, some Leicester fans including myself thought how well would Lloyd Dyer do in this season’s Coca Cola Championship?

Even though Lloyd Dyer was one of the best Leicester players last season, this season has been a whole different story. So far Dyer has had a hit and miss season, on the other hand in the last couple of months, Dyer has been more of a hit with the Leicester City fans. Leicester match day commentator Ian Stringer, was so surprised by Lloyd Dyer’s pace in one game, he has compared him as Leicester City’s very own Usain Bolt.

Over the past month or so I for one have been impressed with Dyer’s performances, and to be honest it all started in a live Sky Sports game against Sheffield United, where Dyer was able to tear the Blades right-back, Kyle Walker to shreds. Also in the highly contested 0-0 draw against Newcastle, Lloyd Dyer was definitely one of the best players on the pitch in that game. Also the winger has found his goalscoring touch again, as he is currently on a goalscoring record of two goals in four games. Dyer scored one of the goals in a 2-1 win over Blackpool only a couple of weeks ago, and last night he was able to steal a point on Leicester’s behalf, only a minute after David Clarkson put Bristol City ahead. The “Blue Army” has been impressed with Dyer’s displays recently, as some fans have marked him as one of the most feared wingers throughout the whole of Coca Cola Championship.

So I want your opinions please…How Good Is Lloyd Dyer?

After an astonishing 5-1 victory at home to Scunthorpe on Saturday, Leicester now travel down to Ashton Gate, in what could well be a hard fought battle against Bristol City. Leicester are currently 6th in the Coca Cola Championship, while fellow promotion rivals Bristol City have currently dropped off the pace as they lay in a mediocre 15th position.

THE TEAMS
Leicester, are currently in decent form, as from the Newcastle match at the back-end of January, Leicester haven’t lost a game in the Coca Cola Championship. However after the injury sustained to top scorer Matty Fryatt in a match against Doncaster, many fans thought that Leicester would struggle without his presence. However without the former Walsall man for Saturday’s fixture against Scunthorpe, it seemed that the “Foxes” could well cope without him. On the other hand, Leicester currently has three away games on the spin, all three against decent opposition. Tomorrow night’s performance against Bristol City, has to be top class from Nigel Pearson’s side, if not they could well need to bring in an emergency loan striker. Also for the “Foxes” they have just recently recalled winger Nicky Adams from his loan spell at Leyton Orient.

Bristol City, has dramatically fell off the play-off pace in this season’s Coca Cola Championship. The “Robins” have always conjured up a decent Championship finish, however by the looks of it they could well finish in a very sluggish mid-table place at the end of this season. Even though manager Gary Johnson has brought in some decent players over the summer and January transfer windows, hardly any of those new signings have made a real impression at Ashton Gate. However with new loan signing, Chris Iwelumo looking to make an instant impression, things could well be looking up for Bristol City. Last time out between these two sides, Leicester played ever so poorly against Bristol City at the Walkers Stadium, as the “Robins” were able to defeat the “Foxes”, 3-1. Bristol City need to get their act together, or Leicester could well defeat them tomorrow night.

TEAM NEWS
Leicester – Leicester are likely to be unchanged from their 5-1 win over struggling Scunthorpe. However the likes of Lloyd Dyer, Yann Kermorgant and Nolberto Solano are all pushing for starts. Nicky Adams who has just returned from a loan spell, could well be on the bench. However, Fryatt is the only lengthy absentee for Leicester.

Bristol City – Bristol will have to contend with a handful of injury problems, defender Jamie McAllister, new signing Jamal Campbell-Ryce and top goalscorer Nicky Maynard, could all miss out again through injury. It is highly likely that Danny Haynes will return from illness; however defenders Jamie McCombe and Brian Wilson are long term injury problems.

KEY PLAYERS
Leicester City - Matt Oakley. Matt Oakley’s performances have taken toll on the Leicester fans, as the “Blue Army” has become incredibly restless over his performances and his captaincy. However over recent weeks, Oakley has shone to form, as in the past three home matches, especially against Newcastle, Matt Oakley has looked like a different player. His passing has got a lot better, and so has his corner kicks. Hopefully, Oakley can continue his rich vein of form and sustain a decent performance against Bristol City on Tuesday night.

Bristol City – Ivan Sproule. Earlier in the season, Ivan Sproule tore through the “Foxes” left-back Ryan McGivern. His pace is incredible, as I for one was impressed with his skill and determination to get forward. Sproule also scored a great solo goal in the last meeting between the two sides, however if Sproule starts he could well come up against Bruno Berner, who is more of resilient full-back. Sproule’s pace could well catch, Leicester cold in some periods of tomorrow’s game, as he will certainly be Bristol City’s danger man on Tuesday evening.

MATCH PREDICTION
Since Bristol City heaped misery on Leicester earlier in the season, the “Robins” have been playing poor football throughout all competitions ever since their 3-1 win against the “Blue Army”. Leicester are currently on good form, as they haven’t lost in four league games. Last time the “Foxes” played away from home, Pearson’s side was able to turn over Ian Holloway’s, Blackpool. This match could well be tighter than their recent affair, however as the form books show I have Leicester nicking this one in the bud. Bristol City 1-2 Leicester City.

Leicester City were able to graft in some silverware at the end of May this year, the first piece of competitive silverware since the Worthington Cup win in 2000, as the club were crowned League 1 champions, as vital wins over Leeds United and Southend United plus a draw against Scunthorpe saw Leicester cap off a great 2008/2009 campaign.

The final half of the 08/09 season saw Leicester kick off January with a 0-0 draw, in the 3rd Round of the Fa Cup against Crystal Palace. Leicester then went onto lose the replay at Selhurst Park. Also in January The Foxes were able to edge out Huddersfield Town at the Walkers Stadium, with Huddersfield taking the lead twice, Leicester were able to come out of the game with a 4-2 win. Also in January Nigel Pearson and his players travelled down to Yeovil in which was a long bitter journey for the Leicester fans. That game resulted in a 2-0 win for the Foxes, as Joe Mattock now with West Brom scored his first and only goal for Leicester City. The month of February proved to be a tough old month for Leicester, as the Blue Army were left frustrated at home, as Oldham and Swindon both picked up important draws at the Walkers Stadium. On the other hand at the end of February Leicester travelled down to Stadium:Mk in what was the most nail biting Leicester match I have ever been to. 95 minutes were on the clock as the Mk Dons led 2-1; however a last minute free-kick from Max Gradel sent the Leicester fans into raptures as the Foxes went back to Leicester with a vital point.

Max Gradel scores a last minute free-kick at Stadium.Mk

The month of March proved to be a very inconsistent month for the Foxes. The 4-0 thrashing of Cheltenham Town was only one of two highlights in that month for Leicester City, the other being a 1-0 win against Millwall at the New Den as Steve Howard scored the winning goal after 23 minutes. However March proved to be the worst month yet for Leicester in League 1, Nigel Pearson and his side were overdone twice in that month, as both Tranmere and fellow promotion side Peterborough defeated the Foxes 2-0. Moving onto April as that month proved to be one of the best months in Leicester’s history, the Foxes were able to pull away after a 1-0 win against Leeds United at the Walkers Stadium, however it was the away game at Southend which eventually crowned Leicester as the League 1 champions, as two goals from Matty Fryatt gifted the Foxes promotion back to the Championship. The season finished on a high as Leicester ended April with a 2-2 home draw against Scunthorpe, and the only game in May against Crewe ended in a 3-0 win for the Foxes.

Now into the 2009/2010 campaign and for a Leicester fan it has been a high flying exciting first half to the season. It all started with a 2-1 home win against Swansea as new signings Martyn Waghorn and Dany N’Guessan netted for the Foxes, August also saw Leicester bag decent draws away to Ipswich Town and Sheffield United. However that month ended on a low as Newcastle defeated Leicester City 1-0 at St James Park. September however proved to be an excellent month for Nigel Pearson’s side as City defeated Ian Holloway’s Blackpool 2-1 at the Walkers Stadium. Leicester City also threw a 2-0 lead away against Watford at Vicarage Road, however Dany N’Guessan saved Leicester from humiliation as the game ended 3-3. September was finished off with a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough, thanks to a goal from Lloyd Dyer.

N'Guessan scores the winner against Swansea

With August and September complete the Foxes moved onto October, that month Leicester went unbeaten. With draw’s against local rivals Coventry and Derby, Leicester then moved onto three wins in a row as they defeated Crystal Palace as Paul Gallagher scored a sublime double in that match. Then it was a tricky trip to Reading in what proved to be a snatch and grab contest, as the Foxes won 1-0 at the Madjeski. Leicester then finished off the month with an impressive 2-1 win against QPR at Loftus Road. November however was a very short month, and in that month Leicester lost at home against West Brom, beat Plymouth and drew Scunthorpe.

Now we have reached December as there is only one more game left until the first half of the 09/10 campaign closes. Leicester City are currently 6th in the Coca Cola Championship, however this month has been an utter disaster as rivals Nottingham Forest defeated the Foxes 5-1. Also only three days later Bristol City stunned Leicester at the Walkers with three fine goals, as the match ended 3-1 in favour of the Robins. Lastly things have got bettter after them two defeats as Leicester eased to a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, that game proved to be the last game that Brian Laws took charge of as the manager of Sheffield Wednesday.

Leicester City have almost finished the 2009 year as this year has been a one to remember for the Leicester City fans, two more games left against Sheffield United and Doncaster then the Blue Army will be set for a battle in 2010, as the Foxes host Swansea in the FA Cup, the first game of the new year. Hopefully Leicester can end this year on a high as they try to stay in the play-offs as long as they can. FOXES NEVER QUIT!!!
